      Invitation: Breakfast Panel on Self-Committed Coal in Power Markets

      Join us for a breakfast panel discussion on the utility practice known as “self-committing.” Research from Union of Concerned Scientists has found utilities “self-committing” coal-fired power plants can contribute to uneconomic coal generation and unnecessary additional costs to consumers. The panel discussion will cover topics including the scope of the practice and the role that regulators can play in addressing this utility trend. The Union of Concerned Scientists will also preview further analysis on the impacts of the practice. Featured Speakers: Commissioner Richard Glick, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Ted Thomas, Arkansas Public Service Commission Commissioner Sarah Freeman, Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission Annie Levenson-Falk, Executive Director of the Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota Joe Daniel, Senior Energy Analyst with the Union of Concerned Scientists Moderated by: Catherine Morehouse, Associate Editor, Utility Dive Breakfast will begin at 7:45 AM and the panel will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
